Michael Gilliam, Treasurer
I have spent the past 16 years working in education, and over the last six years I have developed a deep passion for helping rethink and improve the way we approach teaching and learning. My journey has taken me through a variety of roles, including Special Education, English/Language Arts, Computer Science, and STEM. Each of those experiences shaped the way I see education today and eventually led me into instructional coaching and curriculum innovation, where I enjoy working to build systems that help both teachers and students succeed.
Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to be part of several programs focused on educational innovation, including ROI’s STEM Fellows, Five Star Technologies, and the Indiana Department of Education’s STEM Cadre program. I was also honored to be recognized as an Indiana University Armstrong Educator. These opportunities have allowed me to collaborate with educators from across the state and country who share the same desire to move education forward.
For me, education has never just been a job—it’s something I genuinely love. That passion has also led me to continue learning myself. My academic background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in History, a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Organizational Leadership. I am currently finishing my Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
My doctoral research focuses on the connection between financial innovation and teacher and staff retention. I believe that when we think differently about how we resource schools and support educators, we can build environments where great teachers and students can truly thrive. Through this work, I’ve had the chance to travel and present around the country on innovation in education and its impact on both educators and students.
Outside of education, my greatest joy is my family. I love spending time with my incredible wife, Micah, and our two kids, Camden and Adalyn. Whether we’re traveling, trying a new restaurant, or cheering at a sporting event, we enjoy doing life together.
Our faith is at the center of everything we do. We are active members of Westview Christian Church and care deeply about helping young people grow in their relationship with God. For the past three years, I have served as a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle Leader and enjoy using sports and extracurricular activities as opportunities to share and reflect His light.
